I’ll be your mirror.
Teledrawing Listening sessions offer a dedicated, uninterrupted space to talk through what is true for you.
During your share, I will be creating an abstract drawing of the experience of the call: the mood, energetic charge, rhythm and patterns, tone, and quality of the space between thoughts.
This 8”x8” drawing is an artifact of what you have shared during the phone call and will be yours to keep. The custom drawing artifact will be mailed out to you within a week of the session.

Draw from the well.
In the judgement-free container of our call, you’re invited to:
Talk through your day to day wonderings or stressors.
Process matters of the heart.
Muse on the existential.
Feel deeply held in your grief.
Laugh, cry, scream.
Be cringe.
Gossip, yap, vent, ramble.
Share comfortable silence.
Release old stories.
Envision your next chapter.

Flow of a Call:
As your Smooth Operator, I’ll open our call with a brief grounding to set you up for 30 minutes of unprompted, uninterrupted space to share while I draw the experience of the call.
While drawing the experience of the call itself, I refrain from engaging in dialogue to encourage you to fill the space. For many, this experience can be a new one to embrace.
When booking, you may opt between a phone or video call, your preference.
At the conclusion of the call, I will share back the title of the drawing you’ll receive in the mail, and you should expect to receive your drawing in less than 2 weeks.
WHO IS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE LINE?
Hi, I’m Tobin, aka your Smooth Operator.
I dreamed up this gig because I was made to do just this: listen deeply and draw from that place of presence.
Among other paradoxes, I’m a systems-thinker and gender-nonconforming queer visionary. I’m interested in innovative approaches that center our shared humanity in all its facets.
I believe in the power of this service and share it with humility.
For $160, the Teledrawing Listening Service includes:
30 minutes of uninterrupted, deep listening
8×8” Drawing artifact of the call mailed to your address
Frequently Asked Questions
-
I hold space without directing and follow your lead. My role is to warmly listen, with presence and without judgment, while drawing in response to what you share. Sessions tend to feel unhurried. There is no agenda, no right way to show up, and nothing you need to prepare.
I honor the courage it takes to place yourself in a position to be heard, and take delight in the unique lens of the world each caller offers.
-
I am white, queer, gender nonconforming, and neurodivergent. I manage chronic illness and pain and am the millennial child of an immigrant.
I share this because I believe it matters who is holding space for you, and I want you to be able to make an informed choice about whether I'm the right fit.
-
You may not know where to begin when we start the call, and that's okay. I encourage callers to embrace the space around their thoughts and let them surface organically.
From the sacred to the mundane, deep listening can happen at any level. You could talk about your hobbies, your grocery list, what you think your dog would say to you.
On the more sacred side, you could share your grief and know it will land softly, received with honor.
You could choose to say nothing at all. Even in the quiet, I will be listening and drawing alongside you.
-
Not totally silent. You’ll hear me softly signal conversational cues that I’m present and engaged with what you are sharing.
This may feel one-sided for those generally used to a more balanced dialogue. This may even feel slightly uncomfortable for those of us that are used to being the listeners. Surrendering ideas of how conventional conversations should flow, or how much space one should take up in a dialogue, can be part of the catharsis. In the container we build, granting yourself the permission to take up this time to be heard is key. We start from this place in our grounding of the call.
-
I will communicate clear boundaries around inappropriate or hateful content that will not be tolerated at the top of each session. Content that crosses that line will result in an immediate end of the call.
-
Sessions are 45 minute slots that include 30 minutes of uninterrupted listening time and the drawing artifact mailed directly to the address you provide upon booking. The booking link can be found (here)
-
That is up to you! When you book, you can decide to opt for a phone call or a video call. During both calls, I will be actively drawing while listening.
-
You'll see your drawing for the first time when it arrives in the mail. I send drawings out within a week of the session to the address you provide at booking. During the conclusion of our session, I do share the title of the drawing, but I like to keep some mystery alive until you can hold it in your hands.
-
The drawings are 8×8" on high-quality paper, in colored pencil, and in my aesthetic.
To get a sense of my visual language, you might look at the Sister Shapeshifter drawing series or my paintings. While those works are more resolved, they share a sensibility with what you can expect to receive.
-
I honor each caller's privacy. What is shared in the session stays in the session, with the exception of what I am legally bound to report as a mandatory reporter.
The drawings that are created for each session will be scanned and digitally archived as a series. No identifiable information from the calls or callers will be retained or shared.

Teledrawing Sessions are a space for reflection, presence, and creative response, not a substitute for therapy or mental health care. I'm not a licensed counselor, and this isn't a form of treatment.
If you're moving through something that needs more support than a conversation and a drawing can hold, please reach out to a licensed therapist or, if you're in crisis, a crisis line.
As a mandatory reporter, I am required to report any reasonable cause to suspect harm towards self or others.
